“Write to Change the World”
Month-Long Cohort (4 sessions)
Thursday, September 8 from 4:00pm - 6:00pm ET
Friday, September 9 from 4:00pm - 6:00pm ET
Thursday, September 15 from 4:00pm - 6:00pm ET
Friday, September 16 from 4:00pm - 6:00pm ET
The OpEd Project’s month-long “Write to Change the World” (WTCTW) cohort is an extended version of the OEP’s core workshop, and covers all of the same time-tested transformational curriculum, with the added benefits of more time, special writing prompts between sessions, access to weekly “Ask A Journalist” office hours for individual and group feedback on drafts, and (best of all) a cohort of like-minded peers and coaches to support you and help hold you accountable. All participants who complete the month-long cohort will also have an additional month of follow-up access to our journalist mentors for individual feedback on their op-ed drafts.
Note: We are piloting the month-long WTCTW cohort in September 2022 with support from our community of Ambassadors, and it comes with extra benefits on top of our core workshop. We are offering a special (lower) pilot rate to recognize that those who register for the September cohort will be helping us build this offering.
Join this workshop if you are:
Looking for a more contemplative pace (our 2-day intensive is fast!)
Able to commit to all four sessions and take advantage of writing in between
Looking to support/be supported by peers (including feedback on drafts)
Want to pitch an op-ed by the end of the month
Love a good experiment
Requirements:
This experience is based on discovery through group interaction, and during the four workshop sessions we will be using all the modalities available to us (with adjustments as needed for accessibility): video, audio, movement, live interaction, images, chat, breakouts, and more. Our aim is to create a unique and powerful experience for all, as we build a cumulative conversation that takes us to a destination of action. To do this, we expect registrants to commit in advance to the following (if you are not able to commit to the following, please consider a different workshop option):
Participate in all 4 sessions in full (dipping in and out will compromise group experience)
Participate in all 4 sessions with camera on (to maximize group interaction)
Participate in the weekly writing prompts and #AJA office hours (to maximize results)
Be open to a range of different people, backgrounds, opinions and perspectives
Who should attend? We welcome people of all identities, backgrounds, genders and positions. We seek to always overrepresent the underrepresented, including women. As our curriculum is based on expanding our thinking, it is suitable for those with or without publishing experience.
Scholarships The OpEd Project is building a sustainable model for social justice. Our public workshops are designed to break even (with neither profit or loss) while providing scholarships for up to 30% of participants in any workshop. Scholarship application here.
