BUILDING VOICE IN COMMUNITY

We created our membership program to provide our community (you) with ongoing resources and support for developing your voice, so that together we can change who writes history and make the world a better and smarter place. OpEd Project membership includes the below resources and wrap-around support, which complement the catalyzing impact of our “Write to Change the World” workshops and Public Voices Fellowships. As we continue to grow, we will continue to add more benefits to membership.

MEMBER BENEFITS

  • Every Thursday we host a 45-minute working session in which our Editor-in-Residence discusses ideas, live edits a few op-ed drafts submitted by participants (like you), offers strategic advice on pitching, and answers questions. You can come with an idea or draft you’re working on, or not. Bring your questions, or come to listen.

  • On the final Tuesday of every month (and sometimes other additional dates), we invite guest experts from our community to share industry knowledge and discuss aspects of voice, identity, and how ideas and words come to change the world. In these live conversations, we share skills, strategies and knowledge, and seek to reframe how we see and create the world.

  • Many of you have asked for opportunities to reconnect with each other and The OpEd Project. Our Community Free Writes are 60-minute sessions where we connect and support each other. We meet and greet, do a short free write (solo writing from the gut), come together in small groups to share, and close out tight. Perfect if you need a dose of inspiration.

  • Watch recordings in our member portal of all past Expert Talks with industry leaders on topics like book publishing, memoir writing, personal branding, the dilemmas of taking up space (white anti-racist thought leadership), trolling and safety when engaging online, imposter syndrome, multi-platform thought leadership, diversifying Hollywood, and using your personal story to reach a larger audience.

  • The OpEd Project’s globally recognized “Write To Change The World” workshop is a discovery-based interrogation of authority and knowledge. It walks participants through a method for changing hearts and minds, addressing opposition, building consensus, and thinking bigger. It connects them to a network of journalist mentors, and results in them publishing op-eds (if they wish). It also provides valuable tools for anyone seeking to build a case for something new (new book, new research, new job, new business, new policy, etc). Previous participants have described the workshop as life-changing. It is open to the public, 100% virtual, and typically takes place over two days.

  • This thrilling advanced workshop, offered a few times a year only, focuses on becoming smarter (and generating more and better ideas) by engaging in creative, purposeful interaction with a cohort of diverse peers. We connect ideas across time, space, expertise and identity - and accelerate our thinking by investing in our different and far-ranging knowledge sets. It is designed to make us more strategic and intelligent - both as individuals and as a collective.

Participants emerge with tools to generate new ideas; tactics for being timely at any time; an outline for a draft op-ed (on an idea only you can write, but might never have thought of before); and a global network of diverse peers amongst whom you have the potential to increase your impact and our intelligence. This highly energetic and interactive workshop culminates in the entire group writing an op-ed together - an exercise in collaborative action.

This workshop is exclusively for alums of our core “Write to Change the World” workshop.

  • On an ad-hoc basis, we host special talks, trainings, and networking events.
