ALEGRÍA SANCHIS serves as The Oped Project’s Senior Manager of Community Engagement, where she works to celebrate, elevate and amplify The OpEd Project’s community and mission. Alegría is a graduate of the University of Navarra in Spain, where she majored in Media and Communications. She co-wrote and directed the short film, “Walking the Way,” which premiered in 2019 and was selected for a number of festivals, including the Hispanic Culture Festival in Florida, and the Ibero-American Short Film Festival ABC (FIBABC) in Madrid. She was also a cinematographer on the film, “Silence Sam,” a student-led documentary following the most recent movement to remove the confederate monument from UNC-Chapel Hill’s doorstep. The film premiered at the Indie Grits in Columbia, South Carolina, and was showcased in the Maupintown Film Festival at Charlottesville. Originally from Ecuador, Alegría conceives communication as a tool to influence positive change in society and the world.
