In this four-session writing workshop series, you will put The OpEd Project seminar into practice. Drawing on peer feedback and one-on-one instruction from a Mentor-Editor, participants will refine their skills and write, polish, and pitch at least one op-ed. You will do short writing exercises, workshop articles as a group, and discuss the nuts and bolts of writing effective arguments.

Want to know what it’s like from an alum?  Here’s how a recent participant described her experience: "Thank you all very much for helping me WRITE OUT LOUD. In four short weeks Katherine you moved my writing forward more than it has developed in the last four years. BIG GOLF CLAP to all of you, a positively ROWDY one, in fact!" --Qanta A. A. Ahmed MD

About the Instructor: KATHERINE LANPHER is an OpEd Project Mentor-Editor and an award-winning print and broadcast journalist. She hosts "Upstairs at the Square," a reading and performance series for the Barnes and Noble Studio page (www.bn.com/upstairs) that Daily Candy has described as "an awesome literary salon on a date with an intimate rock concert.'' She is a contributing editor to More magazine and her essays have been published in The New York Times op-ed page and Slate. com; one of those essays turned into her memoir, "Leap Days,'' published in 2006 by Springboard Press. She’s a substitute host for “The Takeaway,” a collaboration of WNYC, PRI, the BBC and the New York Times. In 2008, she won a Gracie from American Women in Radio and Television  for her weekly show "More Time,'' a radio companion to More magazine that aired on XM Satellite Radio.

Cancellation Policy

Full payment must accompany your application and will officially hold your spot. Fifty percent of the tuition is refundable if cancellation is made at least 30 days prior to the seminar date. After 30 days it is nonrefundable.

Should you need to reschedule, you may apply your tuition to a future seminar at no additional charge if you contact us at least five business days prior to the seminar date.  Alternatively you may "pay it forward" and send another person to the session for which you registered.  If you choose to do this and also to register yourself for a future session at the same time,  we will grant a 10% discount off your tuition for the future session.

With less than 5 days notice there is a $100 rescheduling fee, as we cap our sessions at 20 and will be effectively holding an empty seat for you.  Note: this fee may be waived if there is a wait list and we can fill your spot.

If you do not show up for a session for which you have registered, and have not given us advance notice, we cannot transfer your registration.
